Cabo Beach, Burgos, Pangasinan

Cabo/Cabongaoan Beach is a perfect respite for those looking for an unspoiled DIY destination. I bet hardly anyone is familiar with the place - hidden in a remote fishing village in Pangasinan, it is at least 30 km from Alaminos, Pangasinan as the crow flies*! The sand is coarse and orange-ish, and the shoreline, I figure, is twice as long as that of Kwebang Lampas.

There is a resort nearby, but we didn't bother. We bought a kilo of freshly harvested pusit (P80), pan de sal, half a kilo of rice and two packs of pancit canton which would serve as our breakfast and lunch. We cleaned the pusit at one of the houses who were gracious enough to lend us their utensils, and cooked them at the Bantay Dagat Station.

Adobong pusit FTW!

Not a bad meal!

A well-camouflaged crab. Notice how big the sand grains are.

Some parts of the shore are lined up with rock formations such as the these. Great for pictorials.

A worn hammock, perfect for an afternoon nap.

The Bantay Dagat Station, the tallest concrete structure near the shore.
There's a comfort room and a shower area.
You have to fetch water from a nearby well though.

A lighthouse.

Our gears, splayed our on the sand.
Some portions of the beach have plenty of seaweeds,
and this is where I spotted some colorful fishes.
Due to the enormous butt-aching travel time, I recommend this beach for an overnight trip. Pitch your tents near the Bantay Dagat Station (where it's probably safer) and you're good to go.

Travel
1. Take bus bound for Alaminos at Victory Liner Cubao. Fare: P393, Travel time: 4-5 hours.
2. From Alaminos, take bus or jeep for Burgos, Market. 30 minutes, P30 for bus.
3. From Burgos, take trike to Cabongaoan. 2 hours!, P250

Don't forget to take your trike driver's contacts so he can fetch you back. At Burgos, you may either take a rare bus straight to Cubao (ask locals if it has already left), or take a jeep to the terminal in Alaminos.

You can also try the "nearby" Batog Beach (about an hour of trekking from Cabo).
